Alabama WIC Nutrition Program
Alabama WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under the age of five. To qualify for Alabama WIC, you must meet income requirements and have a nutritional risk that proper nutrition could help improve.
Who is eligible?
Pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 are eligible. They must meet income guidelines, a state residency requirement, and be individually determined to be at "nutritional risk" by a health professional.
To be eligible on the basis of income, applicants' gross income (i.e., before taxes are withheld) must fall at or below 185 percent of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines.
Alabama WIC Income Guidelines
Alabama WIC eligibility is based on household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines, using gross income before taxes. Check the table below to see if your household may qualify. These limits are updated by the Alabama Department of Public Health each year, typically in June.

- For a pregnant woman, count each unborn baby as part of the family size.
- Families receiving Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF automatically meet WIC income requirements.
- Guidelines are set by the Alabama Department of Public Health and update each June.
How to Apply for Alabama WIC
Applying for Alabama WIC takes just a few steps:
1. Find your local WIC clinic. WIC is administered through county health departments and local WIC agencies across Alabama.
2. Gather your documents. Bring proof of income, proof of Alabama residency, and identification for each applicant.
3. Schedule your appointment. At your visit, a health professional will confirm income eligibility and complete a short nutritional-risk assessment.
